A friend of mine who pastors a church in California wanted to take his daughters on a trip to Disneyland. But quickly realized that just one day at the Disney parks quickly adds up.
I asked my friend, Cherie the Queen of Free, to share some tips and tricks to save money on a trip to a Disney park. Check out some of her responses below and add your own in the comments.
Here are 10 Best Ways to Save on Your Next Trip to Disney:
- Disney offers various discounts for teachers, military, credit union, and college students. See if you qualify for any at MouseSavers.com.
- Cherie suggests bringing your own snacks and drinks (which will save in the long run). Make sure you pack everything in a soft-sided cooler. Be sure to check Disney’s latest regulations regarding what can be brought inside a park before you arrive.
- If you’re not from the area, consider staying on site at a Disney resort. You can sometimes score the dining package for free.
- Stock up beforehand. Buy clearance Disney shirts, pajamas, and BEFORE going to the park. You can pick these up at the Disney store, Target, Walmart. Souvenirs in park have a hefty price tag.
- If you’re looking to meet some of the Disney characters, be sure to pick up a journal at the dollar store for autographs so you're not tempted to buy one of the expensive ones at a park store.
- Buy our own glow bracelets and wands beforehand so your children feel like they have something special without shoveling out the dough.
- Ask the grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family friends to consider giving money toward the trip instead of Christmas or birthday gifts.
- Try to get the most bang for your buck by going during less busy seasons and arriving right when the park opens. You’ll avoid long lines and hop on your favorite rides first thing in the day. September is a great time of the year to visit since many have already gone back to school. Try to avoid holidays and summer weekends.
- If you’re visiting Disney World, there are some free and cheap options that don’t require entering the park. Go to the BoardWalk and see the street performers, visit Downtown Disney and visit the fountains, or go on a nature walk in the Town of Celebration.
